Advancing
Basic Education & Literacy Phase 2 USAID created its
worldwide project, Advancing Basic Educationand Literacy (ABEL),
to address national and international concerns across the broad
spectrum of basic education, formal education systems, early
childhood education, and nonformal education for out-of-school
youth and adults.

Bonn action five e.V. is an NGO working in Bonn/Germany. We
send donations to projects in developing countries. We have
personal contact with the project, but we don't send people there.
Our work is completely voluntary. Our site shows you some of our

center contains a collection of international human rights
materials with a particular focus on Africa as well as a

Policy Information Center's primary objective is "to widen the
policy debate in the United States around African issues and the
U.S. role in Africa, by providing accessible policy-relevant

individuals. APIC is the educational affiliate of the Washington

civil rights group supported organization that works with Congress

Chapel &
York Provides materials for non-US charities to fundraise from
US sources. Charities can be anywhere in the world and can be any
size: the materials produced by Chapel & York will assist them
in raising funds for their causes.
- CARE International is one of
the worlds largest independent, international relief and
development organisations and operates in more than 60 countries.
- Children's
Peace-full-Environment Foundation is holding an International
Conference for children and young people in Adelaide, Australia.
The children who are coming from all over the world will come
together to discuss issues related to peace and the environment
the end result being an official document containing the proposals
of the children which would then be sent to all the governments of
the world.
- Conflict
and Peace Courses: An annual season of practical courses led
by Prof Johan Galtung, founder of Peace Studies. Each is designed
to create or strengthen peoples' networks, aware of the need and
equipped to intervene for peace.
- Caribbean Group for
Cooperation in Economic Development surprisingly, this is the

- Centre of
African Studies (CAS) "provides an entry point for those
interested in finding out more about the University of Edinburgh's
wide-ranging activities in teaching, researching and consulting on
African matters. The University is Scotland's leading centre for
Africa-related work across a range of disciplines including
anthropology, veterinary medicine, education, law and divinity."
- The Canadian
International Development Agency (CIDA) "is the federal agency
responsible for delivering Canada's Official Development
Assistance (ODA) program. It reports directly to the Minister for
International Cooperation and Minister responsible for La
Francophonie. The purpose of CIDA is to support sustainable
development in developing countries in order to reduce poverty and
to contribute to a more secure, equitable and prosperous world."

- China
Development Briefing "reports on social development and
welfare in China, including issues such as rural development and
poverty alleviation, reproductive health and primary health care,
gender, education, environment, disability, child welfare, and
disaster relief."
- Consultative Group on
International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). "International
research centers (IARCS), supported by the CGIAR, are located in
12 developing and 3 developed countries. They specialize in
strategic research in food and agriculture, forestry,
agro-forestry, fisheries and food policy. They place equal
emphasis on productivity research and natural resource management.
They jointly employ some 1,000 scientists of 60 different
nationalities who are working at the centers or in over 200
locations in 40 developing countries, of which 8 are members of
the CGIAR."

rehabilitation and defense of street children in Guatemala,
Honduras, and Mexico. Casa Alianza is the Latin American branch of
the New York-based Covenant House. A leading advocate of
children's rights in the region, Casa Alianza is headquartered in
San José, Costa Rica. Founded in Guatemala in 1981, and
expanded into Honduras and Mexico in 1986, Casa Alianza monitors
and cares for about 3,000 street children, most of whom have been
orphaned by civil war, abused or rejected by dysfunctional and
poverty-stricken families, and further traumatized by the
indifference of the societies in which they live."
